What does it mean to be a Scholar?: Being an EOF Scholar has truly meant a lot to me. Upon transferring to Rutgers, I was nervous to begin a new experience. I wondered how I would fare both academically and financially. Thanks to the support of the dedicated SAS EOF staff, I was immediately at ease. The SAS EOF staff was there to support and encourage me academically and personally. They ensured that I was connected to the financial means to continue my education here at Rutgers. They also provided personal enrichment in the form of valuable workshops. Because of this, I was able to focus entirely on my studies and pursue my dream of becoming a Special Education teacher. I am now in the GSE's 5-year teacher education program, with a concentration in Elementary and Special Education. I am looking forward to earning my Master's degree in this field in 2021. I am proud to say that I am an empowered EOF Scholar and will always be, well after I finish my education.

2020 red blackThe Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program was created, through New Jersey Legislation, in 1968 to provide academic support and financial access to New Jersey residents to attend college. EOF students qualify for the Program on the basis of academic and financial need. The SAS EOF Program is the largest in New Jersey, serving over 1300 EOF Scholars in the School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers Business School, Mason Gross School of the Arts, the School of Management and Labor Relations, and the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. It is the mission of the Rutgers SAS EOF Program to create an environment, which encourages academic excellence, and introduces students (through educational events, programs, and workshops) to all of the resources and enrichment opportunities that are available to them as EOF Scholars at Rutgers University.
