SAS Entrepreneurial Award Program

The SAS Entrepreneurial Award Program supports the entrepreneurial activities of tenured/tenure-track faculty, as well as departments and units within SAS. Start-up funds (a maximum of $75,000/year for up to two years) are provided for strategic development of enterprises to create new income streams by showcasing SAS scholarship and providing novel educational services to the community. A portion of the revenue generated by programs supported by the Entrepreneurial Award Program is shared with the department/unit that sponsors the program.

The Entrepreneurial Award Program encourages applications to develop new master’s degree programs, certificate programs, online programs, non-credit programs, media resources, and other revenue-generating endeavors that highlight the academic excellence of Rutgers University. Individual online courses (not part of a larger program) should apply to the Online Course Develop Program for funding. Please note that new technologies and endeavors that are grounded in faculty research/teaching and show promise as offerings in the broader marketplace should apply to the Grossman Innovation Prize for funding, and that faculty/departments developing individual online courses should apply to the Online Course Development Program for funding.

To maximize the effectiveness of these awards, the Entrepreneurial Award Program will make available administrative support to ensure that contributing faculty are able to spend their time on creativity, development, and delivery. This service will provide marketing/communication and project management expertise, and will connect faculty to a web of internal and external development resources.

Start-up funds will be recouped for future reinvestment by the SAS Dean’s office during the first five years of the program.
