Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences
David Vicario, Professor of Psychology, is a neuroscientist who studies the brain basis of vocal learning in songbirds as a model for understanding the mechanisms of speech acquisition in humans. At Rutgers since 2002, he served as chair of the Psychology Department from 2013-2018, leading one of the largest and most academically varied departments in the School of Arts and Sciences. As Area Dean, he works with department chairs in the Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Executive Dean to assist with hiring and promotion of faculty, maintain oversight of undergraduate and graduate instruction within departments and programs, and work with faculty and chairs to promote professional and departmental development. He also participates in the strategic planning and decision-making process of the School of Arts and Sciences providing recommendations and assistance to the Executive Dean.
