Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education
A Professor of Political Science, Susan Lawrence is the author of the award-winning book, The Poor in Court: The Legal Services Program and Supreme Court Decision-Making and for her teaching, she received the 2001 FAS Award for Distinguished Contribution to Undergraduate Education. Since 2008, she has been Dean for Educational Initiatives and the Core Curriculum. As Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education, she oversees recruitment, instruction, advising, and academic support for the more than 21,000 undergraduates in the School of Arts and Sciences. She works closely with undergraduate directors in departments and interdisciplinary programs on instructional, curricular, and advising issues for all students, including majors and minors, and with the assistant deans in the Office of Academic Services to provide general advising as well as special programs for first year students, transfer students, and special populations.
