SAS EOF 2020 Scholar

Maheh Zamee
Hometown: Paterson, NJ
Major: Communications and Criminal Justice
Minor: Sociology
Dream/Goal: My biggest goal is to be a good person. It is always easier said than done but I want to be someone who can have a positive impact on others whether it's small or big. That is why I chose the field of Social Work as my masters to better serve others.
Favorite Rutgers Moment: My favorite Rutgers moment was the day I found out I have been selected to be a Resident Assistant on campus. The day started off really badly for me. I was sitting outside my class and wondering if I am even smart enough to do anything. Afterwards, I forced myself to go to class and hold back my tears. While in class, I checked my email and saw that I got accepted for a job I did not believe I was capable of. This job truly opened my eyes to a side of me that I did not know I had. I learned a lot about who I am and what my strengths are while making a difference in my community.
What does it mean to be a Scholar?: Being an EOF Scholar allowed me to successfully navigate the crazy world of college while having a strong support system through the EOF program. The people who make up the EOF program (especially the counselors, deans, etc.) are nothing but supportive. I remember times when I felt really down about my GPA and they were the ones who reassured me that I am doing my best. The amount of support and love from this program really helped me gain confidence that I use to achieve my goals.

2020 red blackThe Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program was created, through New Jersey Legislation, in 1968 to provide academic support and financial access to New Jersey residents to attend college. EOF students qualify for the Program on the basis of academic and financial need. The SAS EOF Program is the largest in New Jersey, serving over 1300 EOF Scholars in the School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers Business School, Mason Gross School of the Arts, the School of Management and Labor Relations, and the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. It is the mission of the Rutgers SAS EOF Program to create an environment, which encourages academic excellence, and introduces students (through educational events, programs, and workshops) to all of the resources and enrichment opportunities that are available to them as EOF Scholars at Rutgers University.
