Rutgers Alumni Association Draws More than 100 Students for Speed Networking Event

The Rutgers Alumni Association's (RAA) popular Speed Networking event returned to the Banks in March after a three-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 100 School of Arts and Sciences students joined with alumni from the RAA and other groups at the College Avenue Campus Student Center on March 7 for two hours of career-focused mentoring and networking. Additional sponsors included the Livingston Alumni Association and University College Alumni Association.

"It was wonderful being back on campus in an atmosphere of helping each other," said Brian Tobin, RAA president.

The first hour had students meeting alumni in a speed networking format, with students rotating every three minutes to meet more alums. Students practiced their elevator pitches while learning all about careers and networking from alumni. After the speed networking session, students met with alumni based on their career interests.

Members of the Rutgers Photography Club were on hand to take headshots for both students and alumni, and video coverage was provided by Rutgers University Film Productions. Rutgers Dining Services provided a wide selection of food, drinks and desserts for attendees.

Tobin said the response from students and volunteers was enthusiastic.

“Our dedicated alumni volunteers worked hard to make this event happen," Tobin said. "They collaborated with constituent schools in the university along with other alumni to ensure that the event was successful.

"We look forward to continuing to build this event to serve the Rutgers alumni and student communities.”
