A Rutgers University graduate, Colonel Jacobs entered the U.S. Army in 1966 as a Second Lieutenant through ROTC. In Vietnam twice, he earned three Bronze Stars, two Silver Stars, and the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest combat decoration. In addition to a distinguished career in investment banking, Jacobs holds the Melcher Chair of Humanities and Public Affairs at the US Military Academy. As an on-air analyst for NBC News, he received the 2011 Murrow Award for the Nightly News segment “Iraq: The Long Way Out.” He is the author of the Colby Award-winning memoir, If Not Now, When? (Penguin 2008) and Basic (St. Martin’s Press 2012).
