• Who Should Apply: Full-time staff and full-time faculty in the tenure and non-tenure systems.
  • Deadline Date: 2025-02-21
  • Funding: SAS will provide funding for programming that supports inclusive engagement within and across units and their members.

The School of Arts and Sciences Strategic Plan encompasses the SAS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Plan, completed in 2023.

This DEI plan included the following priorities:
• Build the Capacity of Leaders to Create Inclusive Climates
• Develop an Institutional Infrastructure to Drive Change

To advance SAS’ commitment to creating inclusive climates and promoting opportunities that contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion, SAS will provide funding for programming that supports inclusive engagement within and across units and their members. The funds can be used for a variety of purposes, such as initiatives to advance a positive workplace climate, social justice-focused programming oriented to faculty and staff, exploration of relationships within and across units to develop mutually enhancing and collaborative environments, work groups or reading groups that support collaboration and positive workplace dynamics, and development of workshops and professional development opportunities. We are especially interested in proposals that advance SAS and academic units’ DEI goals or that advance collaborative work that contributes to diversity, equity, and inclusion goals in SAS academic units.

Applicants are asked to submit the following materials:

1. A document of no more than two single-spaced pages, describing the topic, specific goals, and expected outcomes, as well as the metrics to determine the project’s impact and success.

2. A document with an itemized budget.

3. A brief note of endorsement by each of the unit leaders (department head and/or
center/program/institute director) associated with each of the faculty/staff members and an acknowledgment of the time committed to the project.

Please note that the funds may not be used to support faculty research or course development.

This open call is available to full-time staff and full-time faculty in the tenure and non-tenure systems. Proposals may be submitted by individuals or by small groups. To promote greater collaboration across our community, we encourage proposals that include a mix of staff and faculty. Proposals will be evaluated by senior staff in the Executive Dean’s office.

Funding decisions will prioritize efforts that cut across career stages and appointment types and foster new ways of collaborating.

SAS aims to provide sufficient funding to stimulate meaningful and lasting impact. We also recognize that different types of projects might require different resources. To maximize the range of ideas we can support, please consider your budgets carefully. We expect an upper limit of $10,000/project.
