Zaire is an Associate Professor in the Department of Latino and Caribbean Studies and the Department of Sociology.
Zaire joined the Rutgers faculty in 2007 and was a Faculty Fellow in the Rutgers Division of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement. She previously served as chair of the Latino and Caribbean studies department since 2021.
Zaire earned her Ph.D. in public policy and sociology from the University of Michigan. Her research explores how the urban built environment reinforces social inequality in the Caribbean and the United States. She is also a founding member of the Black Latinas Know Collective, a group of scholars who seek to make critical interventions in Latinx and Black studies scholarship.
