Time-honored tradition continues in 2023

Loyal Sons Daughters Awardees

The Rutgers Alumni Association (RAA) recently awarded its highest honor for service to five alumni and a faculty member.

The April 22 induction ceremony for the 2023 Loyal Sons & Daughters recipients drew nearly 200 attendees for a celebratory evening that turned the Neilson Dining Hall into a gala venue and included performances by the Rutgers Pep Band and the Rutgers Glee Club.

"It’s an honor to be continuing this 64-year tradition of honoring individuals who have made a meaningful and long-standing commitment to the betterment of Rutgers," RAA President Brian Tobin said,

The RAA, which is the oldest alumni association at Rutgers University, became the official alumni group for the School of Arts and Sciences in 2018. The Loyal Sons & Daughters awards recognize individuals for extraordinary alumni service or for making a significant contribution to university life and culture.

Nominations are made by existing Loyal Sons & Daughters, with the finalists named by a special selection committee.

Robert Eichart and Danielle Bechta serve as co-chairs of the Loyal Sons & Daughters Committee.

“More than 500 alumni have been privileged to enter the ranks of Loyal Sons and Daughters of Rutgers University,“ Eichert said.

“Loyal Sons & Daughters come from all walks of Rutgers life,” Bechta added. “Countless examples of university service have ranged from volunteering on multiple boards and committees to giving time and counsel to specific academic, athletic or outreach programs.”
