Richard Schroeder

Richard "Rick" Schroeder, Professor of Geography, is a trained geographer with specialties in political ecology, development studies and African studies. At Rutgers since 1993 and Chair from 2011-2015, his newest book, Africa After Apartheid: South Africa, Race, and Nation in Tanzania, was awarded the Association of American Geographers’ Meridian Book Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work in Geography, 2012. As Area Dean, he works with department chairs in the Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Executive Dean to assist with hiring
and promotion of faculty, maintain oversight of undergraduate and graduate instruction within departments and programs, and work with faculty and chairs to promote professional and departmental development. He also participates in the strategic planning
and decision-making process of the School of Arts and Sciences providing recommendations and assistance to the Executive Dean.
