Seeing my son's tender face every morning inspired me to do my best to give him a better life.
I believe that the desire to succeed can help you overcome the obstacles in your life. Perseverance was the key ingredient in my recipe for success. Being a single mother and student has been extremely difficult. In addition to being a full-time mom, I work two part-time jobs and take a full course load at Rutgers. My son was my drive. Seeing that tender face every morning inspired me to do my best to give him a better life.
I received amazing support from my younger sister Elmyra. She helped babysit while I worked 13-hour shifts. Without her, I don't know if I could have come this far. There were times where I felt like giving up, but I knew I would someday reap what I have sown. I have been a Jane-of-all-trades to reach this goal. This journey required me to maintain a positive mentality.
I chose to study mental health because I wanted to bring awareness about diseases that seem invisible in today's society.
