I was always telling my son to dream big.  But I was not following that advice in my own life. I needed to show him, not simply tell him.

Personal Statement

My son was 5 when I decided to quit my job and return to school as a full-time student. Let me tell you, it was one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but also the easiest.

I knew it meant putting financial strain on my family. I knew it meant there’d be nights when I wouldn’t see my son at bedtime, and afternoons when I wouldn’t be able to help him with homework.

But I also knew that I needed to live up to the values I had tried to instill in my son. I was always telling him to dream big and that he can accomplish whatever he puts his mind to. But I was not following that advice in my own life. I came up with every excuse in the book not to return to school. I needed to show my son, not simply tell him, that anything is possible.

As I began my early 30s, I began my adventure in college! I am proud to say that I have completed my undergraduate education and have been accepted inTO the Graduate School of Education’s Masters in Social Studies Education program. As I finish my final semester as an undergrad and begin my graduate studies, I’ve come to believe that anything is possible if you simply dream big and work hard. My son was my inspiration and I can only hope that I not only inspire him but also all of my future students.

Anything is possible!
