(March 20, 2024)

Title:  24th Irons Lecture this Saturday (March 23) at 2pm in the Physics Lecture Hall

Speaker:  Prof Suzannne Staggs, Princeton University

Talk Title: Looking Backwards with the Cosmic Microwave Background

Summary:

Radiation left over from the Big Bang shows that our universe is 14 billion years old. We can predict our universe's future by studying this radiation more closely, which requires cameras that operate at temperatures near absolute zero. Prof. Suzanne Staggs will describe the joys of working on these cameras in the lab and at 17,000 ft elevation.

There will be a reception after the talk.  Please join us!!

The Irons Lecture series was endowed in 1998 in honor of Henry R. and Gladys V. Irons and the first lecture was held in 1999.  The Irons Lecture is intended for a general audience with the goal of presenting recent discoveries in physics, astronomy, and related fields in an understandable way to the general public.
