I knew that my degree meant increasing my daughter's chances of earning a degree.
I came to Rutgers for my daughter so failure was never an option. I knew that my degree meant increasing her chances of graduating, and increasing her chances of success. That kept my dream alive.
I grew up knowing first-hand the pressures that working moms face. When I was a little girl in the 1980s, my mother brought me to work with her and had me sleep in the custodian closet because she did not have access to quality childcare.
With my my major in labor studies and employment relations, I hope that I might one day be a voice for working people who need support.
I'm proud to graduate from Rutgers and become the first in my family to earn a college degree. The fact that I did it while being a single, full-time mommy, worker, and student makes it a surreal accomplishment.
